Protecting Wealdstone Police Station

The Metropolitan Police Authority are threatening to close Wealdstone Police station, and Boris Johnson is doing nothing to save it. I will fight for this police station in the heart of Harrow.

All aboard for the one hour bus ticket!

Picture via the Evening Standard

I joined with Brian Paddick, Carolin Pigeon, and colleagues from across London yesterday to launch the London Lib Dems campaign for a one hour bus ticket. While you can travel on otehr transport without have to tap-in various times, this is not possible on buses. The one hour bus ticket means you would only pay once for every bus journey in an hour.

This is a fantastic, innovative, Lib Dem idea that will give real help to some of the poorest Londoners, as Brian Paddick explained to the Evening Standard.

Various activists joined Brain and Caroline travelling across London on bus, to explain the idea to Londoners. Unsurprisingly, it got a very good reception!

The one hour bus ticket is an idea that would make travel cheaper for residenrts in Brent and Harrow, and one I hope they will support on May 3rd by electing Liberal Democrats to City Hall.

Fantastic success in Dollis Hill

Yesterday, Alison Hopkins secured a fantastic by-election victory, holding onto the seat of Dollis Hill. The election had been called after the sad death of Alec Castle, who had been a tireless campaigner for the area for many years. I am sure Alison will now proudly continue in that vein.

The victory is a significant one for the London Liberal Democrats, showing our ideas and our campaigning can generate real success, and beat Labour in London. The election was in Ken Livingstone’s backyard (literally, he lives in the ward next door,) but he was nowhere to be seen yesterday. This is in marked contrast to local Lib Dem MP Sarah Teather, who had was a continual presence on the campaign trail, along with other senior London Lib Dems.

The full results were:

Alison Hopkins (LD) 1,205 votes
Labour 1,168 votes
Conservatives 140 votes
Green 79 votes

Many thanks to all those who came to help out!

Lib Dems out and about in London

I have spent a lot of time recently out and about in both Brent and Harrow speaking to residents there, and delivering them information about how the Lib Dems are fighting to improve London. Unsurprisingly, I am not the only one, as this video shows:
